New emergency exit drawbridge fitted to aid flood evacuation

Following the flooding in York in 2015, we worked with a local property developer to manufacture and install an emergency escape steel ‘drawbridge’ for a development in Hungate, very close to the River Ouse and so with a high flood risk.

The building’s existing emergency exit was located at ground level at potential risk of being in the flood area and so the Council asked for an escape route to be designed as part of the planning permission.

We manufactured and installed a new emergency exit drawbridge, which is fitted to the first floor of the building. This lowers down to an existing bridge to provide safe egress from the building should an emergency evacuation of the building be required.
